NEW ENGLAND ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS
(NEASS) EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (Part-Time)
The Board of Directors of the New England Association of School Superintendents (NEASS) is seeking an Executive Director to replace retiring Executive Director Dr. Herbert Levine who has served the organization with distinction for more than a dozen years.
Founded in 1868, the New England Association of School Superintendents (NEASS) is the oldest regional school administrator organization in the country. This unifying association is composed of school administrators from each of the six New England states. Over the years, NEASS has provided a strong voice for New England within the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). In fact, three ASAA presidents have come from and been supported by NEASS: Robert Fox (Hanover, MA), Joseph Cirasuolo (Wallingford, CT), and Randall Collins (Waterford, CT). Each state association appoints three members to serve as Directors, and the Presidency rotates from state to state, as does the Annual Fall Conference, the signature event of NEASS. This year’s fall’s conference in Stowe, VT, will be NEASS’s 201st major conference.
The MISSION of the New England Association of School Superintendents is to promote highly effective school district leadership through professional development, networking opportunities, and recognition activities.
The new Executive Director will provide high quality organizational leadership and administrative support for NEASS; promote highly effective school district leadership throughout New England; identify major educational issues and opportunities in the region; and advocate, communicate and lead strategies on behalf of the Board and NEASS to address these issues and opportunities. Qualifications for this outstanding leadership opportunity include at least five years of successful central office or similar experience, preferably as a Superintendent of Schools in New England; a Master’s Degree or higher in educational administration or related field required (doctoral degree preferred); and experience serving on professional and/or not-for-profit boards.
Terms of Employment
This is a part-time position with a starting annual salary of $12,000 to $15,000 with no benefits. However, finances permitting and based upon performance, the Board is prepared to offer, in addition to salary, up to a $5,000 annual bonus payable as salary or other form of compensation. Moreover, depending on the Executive Director’s ability to generate additional revenue, the Board is prepared to consider increasing compensation in future years.
The Application Process
It is anticipated that the review of applications will begin on April 9, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. The Board of Directors plans on interviewing final candidates in May 2018, with an appointment made shortly thereafter. The position is scheduled to commence in Spring 2019, with a transition period, to be negotiated, beginning Summer or Fall 2018.
